The 75SM99 joins the majority of LG’s TV range this year by supporting both Dolby Vision HDR and Dolby Atmos sound.

According to a report by Mydrivers, Huawei will launch a “high-end” TV in September. This is against the previous rumours, which had claimed that Huawei 55-inch and 65-inch TVs could be announced in May and August respectively. The vendor’s LCD TV project could have delayed the launch date of the TVs. The company is said to be in talks with display manufacturers BOE and Huaxing Optoelectronics to develop LCD TVs for low-end markets.

Both back a slightly different format for high dynamic range (HDR), with LG packing Dolby Vision into its premium range of OLEDs and Super UHDs, while Samsung favors HDR10+ for its premium TVs. 

From digital signage for registration areas and session venues to 4K TVs for theaters and the broadcast studio, LG displays were ubiquitous at the 2019 NAB Show. Dozens of 49-inch LG screens greeted attendees at hundreds of technical and business sessions. LG 70-, 65- and 55-inch 4K UHD TVs were used throughout the convention including the Futures Park in the North Hall, where among others, NAB PILOT, the AWARN Alliance and Trivini Digital featured LG displays.

Vizio’s 75-inch TV first dropped to around $1,700 at most retailers at the beginning of May, but it had been selling at $1,800 or more for most of the year before that. The TV has a ton of great reviews from users and critics alike because it’s large with high resolutions and great smart features without breaking the bank. Of course, the quality of the image won’t compare to more expensive brands like Samsung or Sony, but… they are the more expensive brands. And we’re here to save money folks.

In India, this model will run Android TV-based PatchWall UI and is likely to be marketed as Mi TV 4A Pro.

For 4K HDR gaming, we turned to Gears of War 4. One good thing about Gears 4 is that the game has a built-in HDR slider along with a split screen mode to show you how content looks when HDR is on or off. Gears of War 4 looks detailed and immersive in HDR and there was no noticeable input lag. Another game with the HDR slider is Battlefield 1. Battlefield 1’s opening segment has a gritty war-torn environment and from the bangs of bullets to the muzzle flash in the game looks detailed and immersive. 

So what can you expect from the Philips 55PUS6272? Most notable is the Ambilight technology, which uses a series of rear-mounted RGB LEDs to project light onto the wall behind the set. In theory this is supposed to reduce the eye strain you get when you watch TV in a dark room, but in reality we just like the pretty colours, and we’re sure you will too.

The Samsung Q60 comes with all of its connectivity ports built into the back left of the TV inside a recessed panel. Unlike some other Samsung QLED TV models or the company’s 2019 8K TV, the Q60 QLED does not come with an external One Connect box. That said, it’s capable management is pretty well designed and easy to set up even though this TV doesn’t have a smoothly flat back panel for the specialized flushed mounting to walls that Samsung’s design allows for certain higher-end QLED TVs.

All things considered, we really do like the LF621U19 Toshiba Amazon Fire 4K HDR TV. Its HDR might suck and many of its specs are only decent (with some simply being mediocre by 4K HDR TV standards) but on the whole, this Toshiba Fire TV model delivers great value for the money it will cost you. It’s genuinely a decent TV with some great 4K resolution, good general color performance and great black levels and contrast. These more than compensate for its defects as a starter ultra HD TV, especially at the wonderfully low prices it sells for in its three sizes.

HDR performance is decent thanks to the set’s ability to offer great highlights, and the build-quality of the entire TV is also pretty good to boot. Toshiba’s smart OS is less proven than its competitors, but there’s enough here to get the job done thanks to support for all the major catch-up and streaming services.
