Bottom Line: LG’s OLEDC9 series of OLED TVs offer fantastic contrast with perfect black levels and vivid colors, in a remarkably thin and attractive design.

This does not support such an extensive color look up table as you get with the Alpha 9 generation two models, and nor will they have as much raw picture processing power at their disposal.

Most of the budget 2018 4K HDR TV lineup, from cheapest to priciest models, from most major TV manufacturers pretty much offers excellent responsiveness for console gaming and PC use at different resolution, color and HDR settings as well as at different refresh rates. For this very reason, it’s surprising that the Toshiba Fire 4K TV does not. It’s responsiveness for console gaming is at best decent and in many ways even mediocre, and the TV is less than stellar as a 4K PC monitor as well. Most of all though it’s the input lag it manages for console gaming that’s weak. Even in Game Mode it falls well short of the average for most budget or premium 4K TVs, which among all of the 2018 models hovered around 20 milliseconds. In the Toshiba LF621U19, the average input lag is closer to 40 ms, as the numbers further below bear out. The following are the specific specs for this Fire TV’s gaming performance in different console setups:

Sony’s TVs also use an Acoustic Surface Audio technology that, in the company’s words, “creates sound from the entire screen, providing pictures and sound in perfect harmony … a perfect unification of picture and sound that conventional TVs cannot deliver.” That or you could buy a decent soundbar. If you’re buying this much TV, you really should invest $1,000 to $2,500 in a 5.1 surround system — three front speakers, two rears, and one subwoofer that is the dot-one part — either on or in the walls. You could also spend $50,000 on something like this.

If you want to use your TV to watch video streaming services (and why wouldn’t you?), you’ll be delighted by the comprehensive choice available. Samsung has the lot, with apps for Netflix, Amazon, Now TV, Rakuten, YouTube, and all the UK TV catch-up services. There’s even a brand-new iTunes app that just hit the platform earlier this month.

You shouldn’t need to use the latter, though, as the NU7100 Series is a smart TV, meaning it can be used to tap into a suite of streaming services, including Amazon Prime Video, Google Play Movies, Hulu, Netflix and YouTube, as well as a number of miscellaneous streams of entertainment, like WRC and WWE Network.

Assembling the TV’s stand is a piece of cake, but you’ll want to have some help when attaching the stand to the TV. Invite a friend or five over. The extra hands and muscle come in handy, and the more eyes you have on hand to ogle the TV, the more compliments you’ll get when you turn it on.

The H8F’s fit and finish are very good, but as with any TV, I can’t vouch for the electronics inside. I will say that Hisense seems bent on competing with the big boys, so I’m guessing quality is a running concern and has been improved.
