If there’s one thing that can be relied upon to steal the show at CES year after year, it’s TVs. The technology powering the biggest screens in our homes might not move as quickly as it does for smartphones or smart home gadgets, but their sheer size means that it’s very impressive when it does.
We’re very interested in seeing how Samsung’s microLED technology shapes up as a competitor to OLED, and its Q9FN QLED TV showed some of the most impressive contrast performance we’ve seen. Much of that prowess comes through on Samsung’s midrange TVs as well, as demonstrated in the RU8000 series. This line of 4K TVs has the same feature-packed smart TV platform as Samsung’s flagship models and shows remarkably strong color performance (though it doesn’t reach the range of the Q9FN). Its features are largely Samsung-specific, however, and while its colors are excellent, its brightness is fairly low. At $1,399.99 for the 65-inch UN65RU8000FXZA we tested, we expect a brighter panel.
This six-core CPU is clocked at 3.4GHz and turbos to 3.9GHz. It fits AMD’s Socket AM4 motherboards. The chip is built on the 12nm Zen+ architecture, features 12 processing threads, and supports RAM up to DDR4 2933MHz. It comes with a CPU cooler and a three year warranty.
Since it uses an effectively identical OLED panel as the C9, you’re essentially spending an extra $800 just for that floating glass design. Because of this, the OLED C9 is our Editors’ Choice. If the style is important to you, go for it. And if your pockets are deep enough, you can even consider spending a few thousand more for a Signature OLEDW9, LG’s latest version of the Signature OLEDW7 we tested two years ago that consists of an ultra-thin, wall-mountable OLED panel you can place on the wall like a painting, connected by a thin wire to an included Dolby Atmos soundbar that contains all of the TV’s electronics.
LG 77-inch OLED 4K HDR Smart OLED TV with AI ThinQ (OLED77C8PUA) — $6,496.99 (list price $8,999.99)
Every now and then a deal on 4K TV surfaces that’s too good to miss, and this just so happens to be one of those occasions — with Walmart dropping the price of a 49-inch LG 4K Ultra HD smart TV by $270, propelling it below the budget threshold.
Organic light emitting diodes — OLEDs — are another technology developed by Kodak that didn’t keep the company from shrinking to a tenth of its peak size. OLEDs emit their own light and beat liquid-crystal display (LCD) TVs for brightness, contrast ratio, darker dark areas of the picture, and refresh rate. LCD TVs require the light from cold cathode fluorescent lamps or LEDs to illuminate the liquid crystals. If a TV is sold as an LED TV (not OLED TV), that means it’s an LED-illuminated LCD TV. Sony’s first OLED TV, the XEL-1, had an 11-inch diagonal display and quarter-HD resolution, or 960 x 540, and cost $2,500 in 2008. Sorry, $2499.99. Today, Sony, Samsung, LG, and Vizio sell OLED TVs.

Input lag is the amount of time between when a TV receives a signal and the screen updates. In Technicolor Expert mode, we measured an unacceptably high input lag of 108.4ms. Fortunately, putting the TV in Game mode dropped that down to an excellent 12.9ms, making it one of our best TVs for gaming. Just remember to switch to Game mode before you start playing.
The Bauhn 4K UHD TV also comes with solid connectivity specs that include 4 HDMI ports, 1 x YPbPr, 1 x optical out and 1 x line out and 2 x USB. This is about the same as what you’d get with any name brand 4K HDR TV from brands like Sony or Samsung.
To recall, this model was launched in China last year with a price tag of 2,399 yuan or approx. Rs. 25,000 in India.
The cutting edge of television technology will cost you seventy large. Sony has settled on a price of $69,999.99 — they couldn’t round up? — for the 98-inch Sony Master Series Z9G 8K HDR FALD LCD TV. This will be the 2019 flagship of the Sony television line and it ships in June. The Z9G measures 86.75 inches wide by 55.0 inches tall by 4.38 inches deep. For a cleaner look, it can be bracket-mounted to any wall that can support 208 pounds.
