Most of the budget 2018 4K HDR TV lineup, from cheapest to priciest models, from most major TV manufacturers pretty much offers excellent responsiveness for console gaming and PC use at different resolution, color and HDR settings as well as at different refresh rates. For this very reason, it’s surprising that the Toshiba Fire 4K TV does not. It’s responsiveness for console gaming is at best decent and in many ways even mediocre, and the TV is less than stellar as a 4K PC monitor as well. Most of all though it’s the input lag it manages for console gaming that’s weak. Even in Game Mode it falls well short of the average for most budget or premium 4K TVs, which among all of the 2018 models hovered around 20 milliseconds. In the Toshiba LF621U19, the average input lag is closer to 40 ms, as the numbers further below bear out. Samsung’s RU8000 series of TVs offer an attractive design and solid performance, both of which are held back a bit by relatively low brightness and a stubbornly Samsung-centric feature set. At $1,400 for 65 inches, this TV is a bit pricey for what you get when compared with the TCL 6-series and the Vizio P-series, both of which get much brighter and also offer strong color performance (though the Vizio also has an unfortunately high 0.12cd/m2 black level, so its contrast ratio is inferior to the RU8000). We’ve seen the RU8000 available for a discounted $1,100 for the 65-inch model, and it’s a much easier sell at that price. If you’re a dedicated Samsung user, the RU8000 is a compelling, reasonably priced TV. If you aren’t living a Samsung lifestyle, however, the Roku-powered TCL 6-series remains our Editors’ Choice by offering a much higher-contrast picture at a much lower price.

For now, Sony is pitching a range of smaller, lower-resolution Crystal LED displays for use in office lobbies, car showrooms, cinemas and theme parks.

There is no universal TV setting that is going to work for every room, TV and device. Pay attention to the light in the room. When adjusting your TV settings, are you doing it for a dark room? A bright room? Is there any light at all? Regardless of the answer to those questions, try to keep lights from directly reflecting on screen.
