Save $300 on the 2019 LG OLED C9 4K TV This Weekend | News & Opinion | 4k Television

Organic light-emitting diode (OLED) TVs are some of the best you can buy, in both style and performance. The technology enables the panels to be incredibly thin while producing perfect black levels and a wide range of color. It’s also very expensive, which is why even LG’s "lower-end" OLEDC9 line costs more than its flagship Super UHD LCD TVs. The 65-inch OLEDC9 we tested goes for $3,499.99, so it’s not for budget-minded buyers. That said, it’s the most affordable OLED TV we’ve seen, and it offers one of the best pictures you can get, earning it our Editors’ Choice.

Motion Blur Control This particular 4K TV doesn’t handle motion exceptionally well in a universal sense but one thing it does manage to do very well is deliver very strong motion blur control due to its remarkably strong response time for shifts in pixel color. In other words, even as content shifts rapidly across the screen or luminosity changes frequently, the Toshiba Fire 4K HDR TV makes its pixels keep up smoothly with what’s going on for a smooth, mostly blur-free level of picture performance.

You don’t get the snazzy metal zapper included with the more expensive models, but you still get two controllers: a fully-specced remote and a more basic wand designed for day-to-day use. The latter is comfortable to hold and easy to use with one hand, and includes a built-in mic for voice control, along with direct access buttons for Netflix, Amazon and Rakuten.

The Samsung NU7100 treads the line between its budget credentials and 4K HDR specs impressively, offering a sharp and smooth picture that leverages its basic HDR capabilities to great effect. Its smart TV platform is easy to use too, even without Bixby voice commands, and Samsung’s budget 4K set manages to deliver a fine all-around experience for a very affordable price.

The TV even comes with its own Ultra Surround speaker system so you don’t have to splurge on separate audio equipment.

Alongside its new display tech, Samsung also had some good news for anyone who wants a smaller 8K TV. The company announced that in addition to the 85-inch model it already sells in the US, it will also be releasing 82-inch, 75-inch, and 65-inch models. There’s also a new 98-inch model, if you never want to be able to see the wall behind your TV ever again.

This is also the point where you no longer get HDMI 2.1 ports, meaning you lose support for high frame rate 4K playback.

These sets also use direct LED backlighting with dimming. But while the SM95/SM98s get LG’s ‘Full Array Dimming Pro’ system, the 65, 55 and 49-inch SM90s just get Full Array Dimming. The lack of the Pro designation on these models means that the SM90s have fewer dimming zones – or maybe even just whole image dimming, based on the light demands of the picture being shown.
