Samsung’s 2019 TV line-up: affordable high-end tech and a 43-inch QLED | Led Tv Smart

Despite being the cheapest 4K TV in Samsung’s 2018 range, the NU7100 offers a wonderfully crisp 4K picture. Images are detailed and sharp, without the slight distortion often seen when upscaling images from HD. But even if the pixels are sharp, the color contrast has to keep up with the level of detail demanded of it.

The Toshiba Fire TV delivers some of its strongest qualities in this broad category of crucial display specs. They are what make many of the TV’s other much weaker specs look much better as a result. Specifically, the black levels and black uniformity of the LF621U19 are excellent or at least very good. We’ve seen better in other almost equally affordable ultra HD TVs but for its incredibly low price, the Toshiba Fire is really great at creating deep, strong black levels that are remarkably uniform throughout. In other words, the amount of light bleed leading to display clouding during very dark scenes is quite low and the actual black level sits very high with a luminosity during deep blacks that’s only slightly above 0.023 nits. Additionally, the TV comes with excellent contrast that sits comfortably above or around 5030:1. We’ve seen better from a number of other low-cost 4K HDR TVs such as the TCL 6-Series and Samsung’s NU7100 but again, over 5000:1 is great by any measure and particularly so in such an affordable 4K UHD TV as the Toshiba Fire LF621U19. What’s notable here is that (as we’ll cover just a bit further down) the LF621U19 isn’t a particularly bright 4K HDR TV but still manages to get saved by its great contrast.

To get the best TV picture quality, contrast is king. Most of the highest-performance imaging technologies, from HDR to OLED to FALD, aim for brighter whites and darker blacks, which lend TV images the power and dynamism to approach real life.

Insignia 55-inch 4K Ultra HD Smart LED TV with HDR (Fire TV Edition NS-55DF710NA19) — $329.99 (list price $430)

Last year owners of 2018 LG OLEDs reported issues with flashing, black crush and macro-blocking in darker parts of the image. These issues appear to have been addressed in this year’s models. There were no signs of flashing or black crush in the image, and although macro-blocking was occasionally visible this was related to poor quality compression rather than the C9 itself.

Sure, you might have brought home a 4K television just last week. But there’s no stopping the march of progress, and Samsung is at the vanguard with this set. It’s an 8K panel—roughly 8,000 pixels wide and packing four times as many points of light as a 4K TV. Anyone with cash to burn can plop this 125-pound beast onto a stout pedestal and be engulfed by the 85-inch display. And while 8K content is rarer than an albino wombat, over the next few years broadcasters should start screening sports and special events in the new format.

For the first head-to-head demo, LG focused on how well the SM9500 performs right out of the box using a clip featuring mountains and lakes. Many displays have a lot of unnecessary processing triggered on by default which can introduce unwanted artifacts to the picture — but in its standard mode, the NanoCell display looked surprisingly natural. 

According to the latest reports, Huawei will launch its high-end TVs in September and it will support high-end features such as 8K ultra-clear resolution, wide color gamut, and AI artificial intelligence. The panel may come from Samsung. However, inside information suggests that Huawei smart TV will not be confined to high-end areas. In the low-end market, Huawei is seeking to cooperate with display manufacturers such as BOE and Huaxing Optoelectronics to develop LCD TVs. According to previous reports, Huawei will launch a 55-inch LCD TV in May this year and a 65-inch model in August. However, the progress of Huawei’s LCD TV project is very unclear and should be postponed.
