By reader and viewer request, I used Season 5 Episode 3 of Game of Thrones â the now infamous âThe Long Nightâ episode â as a stress test for the C9 and compared its handling of the beautifully shot but poorly delivered show to that of a Samsung Q90 and a 2018 LG C8 OLED. The C9 outperformed the Q90 in the darkest scenes by a handy margin thanks to its perfect black levels and contrast maintenance. Though there are moments in this show where an artistic decision was made to reveal no detail in the shadows, when there was something to see, the C9 made sure we could see it. The C9 also did the best job of reducing the banding artifacts that make this episode all but unwatchable on lesser TVs. This happened to be the one area where I felt the C9âs superiority over the C8 was pronounced.
There are more accessible beyond that, too. The A8G isn’t as flashy with ‘just’ a 4K HDR Processor X1 Extreme chip, but it still has common Sony OLED tricks like Acoustic Surface Audio (where the display is the speaker) at a relatively low $2,500 for a 55-inch set and $3,500 for its 65-inch variant. Both TVs appear in May.

If you haven’t experienced 4K at home yet, this is your sign to do it. (If you’re already on the 4K hype train, there’s no reason why every room in the house doesn’t need one.) A ton of TVs are on sale this week at Amazon, Walmart, PCMag, and Dell, including this 55-inch one from Insignia that has Fire TV built in and is (somehow) only $349.99.
All in all, at $420 outright or $41 per month, the 50-inch UN50NU7100 isn’t a bad deal at all. Why? Because it’s less than a year old; has a crisp, clear 4K LED screen with a fantastic viewing angle; and can access a host of streaming services out of the box.
These crucial display specs in any 4K TV are all closely related to each other as far as display performance goes. Thus they deserve to be covered together.
