Samsung has released the QNQ60R 4K ultra HD HDR LCD Smart TV models in several different sizes. Thus, you have the choice of a 43 inch, 49 inch, 55 inch, 65 inch or 75 inch model, and a huge 82 inch version that would be just awesome for gamers and home theater fans who want a deeply immersive experience. These several editions are otherwise identical in pretty much all essential specs except that the 43 inch and 49 inch versions offer only 60Hz refresh rates on their screens while all of the larger editions offer 120Hz. Other than that, very minor screen performance variations such as those we described in our visual specs intro section above may be possible between different screen sizes and even individual units.

It’s rare that you’re going to see extended scenes that are as unforgivingly dark as the Battle of Winterfell, but when you do, pull out all the stops. Turn off nearby lamps or any other light sources that might cause reflections or a flat external glare on your TV screen. It’s likely that you already do this ritual come Sunday nights, but if you don’t, give it a shot for your rewatch of this week’s episode.

The Osmo Action is a palm-sized rectangular box that is waterproof down to 36 feet without a case. A circular lens housing protrudes from one corner on the front, next to which lives a 1.4-inch LCD screen with a 1:1 aspect ratio. The back of the camera is dominated by a large, 2.25-inch touchscreen with a 16:9 ratio. That main screen is wider than what you get with a GoPro (and looks considerably better because of it), while the camera itself is only negligibly wider (and ever so slightly shorter) than the GoPro Hero7 series.

Last year you could pick up a state-of-the-art Philips 75-inch 4K Ultra HD Android Smart TV with HDR Plus and 3-sided Ambilight (2018 Model) at over £500 off for £1,999. The still impressively sized 65-inch model was over 25 percent off at £599, down from £800, while the 50-inch model was £399 down from £450.

This is also the point where you no longer get HDMI 2.1 ports, meaning you lose support for high frame rate 4K playback.

The 4K LCD models get the Alpha 7 generation 2 processor rather than the Alpha 9 version used in the 8K LCD model. So there will be a reduced colour look up table and less general processing power. Since it’s the second generation Alpha 7 chip, though, you’ll still get the new picture and sound ‘AI’ features, as well as the new webOS design and features discussed in the OLED section.

Because of these issues, the LF621U19 isn’t a particularly great television choice for use in brightly lit spaces and when it comes to HDR movie playback from sources like Netflix, it pretty much fails at the job when it comes to highlighting HDR content luminosity. Oddly though, the contrast ratio isn’t much affected by the Toshiba Fire TV’s screen brightness woes, simply because its excellent black levels do a lot to save the situation here.

The type of panel you opt for will determine the quality of your visual experience, so it’s worth considering carefully. Generally, OLED screens are considered the best quality, currently, offering depth, vibrance and quality incomparable to any other. LCD screens still offer a quality viewing experience, though this can’t compare to OLED.
