We found so many amazing TVs of various shapes and sizes for just about any room in your home, while there are even some with built-in streaming devices, such as the Google Chromecast, Roku, and Android TV. Now you can watch your favorite movies and TV shows from Netflix, Hulu, HBO Now, Prime Video, and more without picking up a separate video streamer.

Alongside its new display tech, Samsung also had some good news for anyone who wants a smaller 8K TV. The company announced that in addition to the 85-inch model it already sells in the US, it will also be releasing 82-inch, 75-inch, and 65-inch models. There’s also a new 98-inch model, if you never want to be able to see the wall behind your TV ever again.

When it comes to Black Friday, there is one undisputed king of the jungle (or should that be rainforest?). Over the last Black Friday period, Amazon took a 26 percent share of the total retail industry in the UK. That means over a quarter of the UK’s Black Friday shopping in 2018 was done on the giant online marketplace.

In essence, black levels and uniformity are not exactly perfect or uniform due to the lack of local dimming in the Q60 edition. Black levels and black uniformity are generally much better in 4K QLED TVs with local dimming (such as all of the 2018 QLED editions). That said, the Q60 does deliver the contrast and deeper black level needed at 0.019 nits to display pretty decent HDR quality in high dynamic range content and to offer an overall high picture quality for regular movie and TV media.

Amazon’s Fire 4K TVs are not made by Amazon itself. Instead, three different brands (so far) have opted to use Amazon branding and Amazon’s excellent smart TV platform (along with its Alexa remote control) in their own 4K UHD TVs and label these models as “Amazon Fire” 4K TVs. It’s a workable relationship and what you get when you buy any one of the models currently in existence is a very basic 4K UHD TV in terms of display performance but with a superbly good smart TV platform and remote control features that are premium-good. The Toshiba Amazon Fire 4K UHD TV of 2018 (and into early 2019) is the best of the three existing Amazon Fire 4K UHF TVs, with others from Insignia and Element being priced almost the same but with slightly weaker display performance specs.

As for the Bauhn TV in this deal from Aldi, we don’t know too much about it’s smart TV platform since we’ve never reviewed this make and model of UHD television but we do know that as long as its display performance is good, and its HDMI connectivity is in order (which it is in this case with those 4 HDMI ports), then you can easily hook up your own external streaming media smart OS platform from a major brand like Roku or Amazon and enjoy thousands of 4K and HD content apps with access to hundreds of thousands of hours of movies, TV shows, documentaries and other entertainment.

Step-up to the TCL 5-Series (S515, S517) and you get all of the above, in the same screen sizes, but with a few extra features. There’s support for Dolby Vision, as well as HDR10, an HDR Dynamic Contrast mode, Wide Color Gamut support, and the addition of an enhanced remote with voice control alongside the Easy-to-use remote. The TCL 55S517 is one of the most popular sets in this range.

As usual, they combine an OLED screen so thin you can hang it on the wall (via magnets) like wallpaper with a large external control and connections box that also contains a potent Dolby Atmos-capable speaker system. 

i rewatched last nights GOT in proper HD, it was still dark but looked pretty great and the dark felt deliberate and artful. i thnk the prob on first viewing was the terrible terrible quality of @verizonfios TERRIBLE TERRIBLE QUALITY OF Verizon Fios.

On the other hand, what this Fire TV from Toshiba does do remarkably well is offer extremely uniform brightness levels for all screen testing metrics. That’s quite a rare thing in any 4K TV. What we mean by this will be demonstrated just a bit further down.

The Q60R is a well-built 4K TV though we think the 2018 Q6F was better looking and slightly sturdier. In terms of physical shape, this TV is extremely similar to the Q6FN except that instead of a silvery metallic body with metal supporting legs, it’s made entirely out of plastic and comes with polished plastic leg supports. That said, the Q60 is very sturdy, feels solid and holds itself up just fine. Connectivity ports are all along the back of the television and no external One Connect or One Connect mini box is included with the Q60 QLED edition (the 2018 Q6FN did indeed have a One Connect mini box though). The bezels along the edge of the Q60’s screen are fairly thin and because they’re also black, watching the TV in a dimly lit or unlit room creates the nice visual effect of making the edge design seem invisible.
