Like other premium Mi TVs available in India, the upcoming 50-inch Mi TV 4A model should come loaded with more than 700,00 hours of content from providers like Prime Video, Jio Cinema, Eros Now, Hooq, ALTBalaji, Hungama, Sony Liv and TVF among others.

As well as its premium QLED TVs, Samsung has announced three series of cheaper LED TVs. These use traditional LED color filtering to produce their pictures rather than Quantum Dots, meaning they won’t deliver the same sort of color range or brightness.

To recall, this model was launched in China last year with a price tag of 2,399 yuan or approx. Rs. 25,000 in India.

The screw-on lens filters are a nice addition. The default clear filter can be removed by hand and replaced with an ND filter in a matter of seconds. This is a far less labor-intensive approach than GoPro’s finicky bayonet-mount lens cover on the Hero5 and newer cameras.

As a word of caution, however, you only get a 60Hz refresh rate – what Samsung somewhat misleadingly calls ‘Motion Rate 120’ – rather than 120Hz, but you’ll only notice the drop in refresh rates with fast-moving images or action-packed shots. In these instances you’ll see a slight juddering where frames seem to be skipped, but it’s a small issue with what is otherwise a smooth, composed picture experience – and Samsung had to cut corners somewhere, after all.

HD/SDR Performance TL;DR: The SDR picture quality is sure to please film and TV fans, while some handy features and a 14ms input lag will delight gamers.

Next-gen gaming consoles from the likes of Sony and Microsoft, due in 2020, should support near-lifelike 8K titles as well. While you wait for content to catch up, you can take advantage of this set’s AI engine to upscale what’s available now: Feed any 4K or HD video into the Q900R and it blows up the picture to occupy all 33.2 million pixels. Normally you’d lose some detail, but this AI fills in missing visual information with impressive results. Of course, the better the source, the better the output. Seinfeld reruns might look like an ugly baby in 8K, but Game of Thrones’ dragon sequences? Keep flammables a safe distance from the screen.

The Toshiba Fire TV also lacks support for judder-free 24p content playback from any source. It will of course play such content (usually 4K or HD Blu-rays and many DVDs as well as a large number of streaming media movies) but some judder is created and this might bother some people who are sensitive to this kind of thing.
